It’s all in the timing
May 17
John 7: 1After this, Jesus went around in Galilee, purposely staying away from Judea because the Jews there were waiting to take his life. 2But when the Jewish Feast of Tabernacles was near, 3Jesus’ brothers said to him, “You ought to leave here and go to Judea, so that your disciples may see the miracles you do. 4No one who wants to become a public figure acts in secret. Since you are doing these things, show yourself to the world.” 5For even his own brothers did not believe in him.
I find it quite amazing that Jesus own brothers understood so little about him. The assertion that they make here is that Jesus wants to become a public figure, in other words he wants to become a performer someone who shows off in public so that he can become famous and world-renowned. Perhaps in some way, the brothers of Jesus wanted him to be famous because they would be related to the famous person.
But in verse five we see the real reason for the suggestion and that is that his brothers did not believe him. They did not believe in him all that he was the son of God.
6Therefore Jesus told them, “The right time for me has not yet come; for you any time is right. 7The world cannot hate you, but it hates me because I testify that what it does is evil. 8You go to the Feast. I am not yet going up to this Feast, because for me the right time has not yet come.
Then Jesus goes on to say that it was not yet the right time for him. In the Christian walk, timing has got a lot to everything. Jesus here shows that he was not prepared to move or at outside of the right timing, outside of his father’s timing.
I believe that if you want to do something for Christ, then it is very important that you seek him to make sure that the timing is right. Because if the timing is right then you will have God’s blessing that if the timing is wrong you’ll be doing it in your own strength. And when we do things in our own strength we know that the end result will be failure. In my research, I have been looking at understanding the will of God. I came across this amazing piece of writing from a chap called George Muller and I will share that in tomorrow’s blog. If you’re interested in knowing how to discover whether God’s timing is right, then I suggest you read tomorrow’s blog.
