Three to one deal
Mar 15
Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;6 in all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make your paths straight.
If you look at the verses above there are four actions. Three action s are to be performed by us and then God will do the fourth. Here are the three we have to do:
-
Trust in the LORD with all my heart
-
Lean not on my own understanding
-
Acknowledge him in all my ways
The first two of these actions above are internal things, they are things of the heart. Trusting comes from s secure place in our spirit. Trust and faith are very closely aligned. If you have faith you will trust and visa versa. We are told we should not lean to our own understanding. leaning means just talking your weight to one side. It is a small thing, but small issues can have great consequences. We must remain upright and must lean towards God.
Then the last one is acknowledging him. This is more of an external thing although it can have internal workings too. Acknowledge God in your spirit, in your heart and give him the glory, and then acknowledge him before men. I must acknowledge God in all my ways. If I do all of these things, then he will make my paths straight.
That means he will ensure that I am not overwhelmed and I am not overtaken by evil, but that good will reign in my life and I will experience the benefit of having Gods hand on my life. Note that in almost all of these things, God wants us to have the best such as having him make our path straight, but it is not automatic.
Faith vs works

This was received by email today from my dad, and I thought it was really good:
The Bible says “Faith without works is dead”. –James 2:26
‘The presence of good works does not prove the presence of faith; but the absence of good works does prove the absence of faith’ – Dr. James Merritt
