Anxiety weighs us down

Proverbs 12: 25 An anxious heart weighs a man down,
but a kind word cheers him up.
One of the greatest challenges ahead is to not be anxious about anything. In Proverbs chapter 12 we read that an anxious heart weighs a man down. We are told in many places in the Bible that we should not be anxious but that we should give thanks for everything. This is of course easier said than done. Nevertheless, if we are anxious it means that we have not passed on case of the Lord. Jesus said that he came to give us peace and to give us peace abundantly. What we have to do is to take hold of that peace and to appropriate it. We do this by doing the things which bring peace, namely studying the word of God and meditating on it.
Normally, if one is anxious it is because one is concerned about or fearing something outside of your own control. Jesus said that we should cost our cares on him for he cares for us. This is done by a process of constantly learning to rest and rely on God as opposed to relying on other and strength. The more you practice resting on God the better we become at it. The same verse continues to tell us that a kind word cheers us up. Once again we see that we have the power in our tongue and the word is that we say can make a big difference to those around us. My aim is to continuously learn to rest and rely more and more on Jesus who is my saviour.
