Give me discernment
Feb 17
Psalm 119:125 I am your servant; give me discernment that I may understand your statutes.
This is the prayer of the psalmist in Psalm 119. It seems to not be a psalm of David, some people believe the author is Ezra, but in any case there is so much in this psalm. Before I left for prayer this morning I read apart of this psalm and this is the bit that caught my attention.
We need discernment to understand God’s statutes.
When we study the word of God, we can easily misunderstand what the word is saying. So we need discernment and I pray God gives me lots of that. Discernment means we will rightly divide the word of truth. If we are told to rightly divide it, it stands to reason we can easily wrongly divide it.
Then the Psalmist goes on to say :
127 Because I love your commands
more than gold, more than pure gold,
This is where I want my heart to be. But it takes more than wishing it for it to be so. In order to have a heart that loves God’s commands more than gold requires that I learn to know Him, and to know him inside out. Or at least as well as I can. We all want instant Christianity, but God’s way is things take time. You don’t plant a seed and then pick fruit the next day.
