Knowing God’s will in our life

If there is one thing that we desire as Christians, it is to do the will of God. I think that there is a common understanding that if we live according to God’s will, then things will go well for us and if we go against God’s will then things will not go so well for us.

I would like to study this assumption and share my own thoughts and feelings about what we need to do to understand the will of God..

The first thing to establish is what is the meaning of the word “will”?

The way that I would describe someone’s will would that your will is your purpose or plan or desire for a particular result.

One of the best examples that we have regarding a will, is our last will and testament. In our last will and testament we write down what we would like to happen to our worldly possessions and possibly our children if we were to die.

Let me start by asking you if you know the will of God for your life. If you are absolutely certain that you know God’s will for your life I would like to hand right now.

How many of you here are not sure about what God’s will is your life, but you would love to know?

We Christians are sometimes quite crazy. I think that most Christians believe that God’s will has been hidden like an Easter egg in a treasure hunt. It is as though God really wants us to try harder to discover his will and we must endeavour at all times to find his will and during our life he gives us tips and clues and says we are getting warmer or colder.

Let me say that the opposite is actually true. There is no doubt that God wants us to know his will.

If you really do not know what God’s will is your life then my suggestion to you have is that you are either not looking for God’s will or you are looking at the place. Peter tells us that we should not be ignorant that God will therefore it is clear we need to find out what God lives. God has not made it difficult to find and in fact sometimes we make finding God’s will much more complicated than it really is.

If you are seeking God’s will and you haven’t found it yet perhaps there’s a problem with the way in which you are going to try to find God’s will. So how do you type the gospel your life? Do you wake of God to do some miraculous I wonder in your life and therefore that will be an indication or a work of God as to what he wants you to do? Well if that’s so then I have some news for you, God does not usually do the miraculous simply to tell you whether you should eat cheese and tomato or tuna for sandwich at lunchtime. You can close your eyes and think hard in the hope that the holy spirit is going to speak to you in some kind of audible voice? What you waiting for God to wake you up in a dream that you that you need to wear your black pants in the morning and not your jeans? I am not trying to be facetious here I am trying to spotlight what the problem is that many Christians encounter and that is how they go about trying to find the will of God.

If you want to find God’s will that you need to look in the right place. God has put his will in the most obvious place of all. The Bible. That’s right, I said the Bible. If you want to find out what God’s will is your life it is simple, read the Bible.
