The following is an excerpt from Andrew Wommacks fourth sermon in prayer.
You need to start understanding that faith is governed by law. Faith doesn’t just happen. I’ve been with people all the time who say “why did God let this person die? Why didn’t god heal that person? God established laws, spiritual laws – there are laws of faith.
Romans 3:27 Where, then, is boasting? It is excluded. On what principle? On that of observing the law? No, but on that of faith
Faith is governed by laws. Just as in the natural realm, natural things all around us are governed by laws. There are spiritual laws that have to be obeyed. Electricity is governed by law. Electricity flows through things like copper better than it does through rubber. And that’s just a law. That’s just the way God made it. He made that I guess so that we could use it, so that we could tame it, so that we could harness it. There are laws that govern how electricity flows and if you don’t understand the laws, you’ll do without it. Did you know that for thousands of years people did without electricity? It wasn’t because they were stupid people. There were some brilliant people, but they didn’t understand how electricity worked. Electricity has been on the earth since God created it. God didn’t just create electricity a couple of hundred years ago – man just discovered the laws of electricity and how to use it. You know they could have been using electricity back in Egypt, back in Moses day, back in Jesus day. Electricity has been here but it was our ignorance that kept us from operating in it. You know the technology for cell phones has been around forever but it is only in the last ten years or so, that the technology is in place. There’s other technology but the only reason we are not using it is we haven’t yet discovered the laws.
There are laws that govern how God works. God is controlled by himself by laws. God created the law of electricity. Do you think that the God who created so much system and order in the physical world, is himself disorganised? That doesn’t make sense. And there are Christians that come up to me all the time and say well I prayed but I don’t know if I did it right, but if God wanted to he could have healed me. What they’re saying is “there are no restrictions on God, there’s no restraint upon God”. There are!
They’re self imposed restraints but restraints nevertheless. God put down laws. I could talk about a lot of them tonight but one of them the Bible says “You resist the devil and he will flee from you”. He gave you authority over the devil. Now if you are trying to get demonic activity off of you and you are praying God please get the devil off me, God loves you and he wants you to be free of demonic oppression but God gave his word.
Psalms 89:34 “I will not violate my covenant or alter what my lips have uttered.
When God speaks something out of his lips it is a covenant. He doesn’t violate it. God never says anything he doesn’t mean and he always means what he says. He never violates it. When God says you resist the devil and he will flee from you, that’s a tremendous blessing. It’s a tremendous privilege but it just limited what he will do. God will not rebuke the devil for you. And so if you pray and say God please get the devil off my back, it’s not going to happen, because he set down a law and gave you authority and you have to resist the devil and he will flee from you. You can be as sincere as you want to – you can want deliverance, you can want freedom, but if you don’t follow the guidelines of the laws God set down it’s just not gonna work.
I will not violate my
covenant
or alter what my lips have uttered.
