“[Be Holy] Therefore, prepare your minds for action; be self-controlled; set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed.”- 1 Peter 1:13
Today we travelled back from holiday in George and we were on the road for many hours. My son slept almost all the way home, sprawled out on the back seat, with not a care in the world. My wife sat next to me reading the latest getaway magazine, and I kept my eyes on the road.
Getting home late morning, saw me then getting straight into the emails of the day, catching up with the office and getting right back into work mode. The cricket was a good distraction, but the daily activity was back to the norm in a flash. My wife was unpacking, doing the washing and buying in provisions and my son was soon off to friends down the road. Because we left early, I was unable to have my daily quiet time and so by 5pm suddenly I realised that I had spent no time in the word.
Since I am now grabbing some time before I again rush out, the whole experience has been rushed, and it feels like I have done no justice to spending my special time with God today. I am sure many others must feel that way too. So, I decided since I was under time pressure to see what the verse of the day was on biblegateway and there it is above. I am reminded to prepare my mind for action. That is not hard when I received an email from the church today reminding me that next weekend there is a leaders conference for Friday night ansd all day Saturday.
I reckon, in times like today which are rushed one needs to remember that preparing your mind must be a daily routine and that whilst today I have been rushed and have not really sat and communed with God, these few minutes spent preparing my mind for action have been precious. Bless you Lord.
