I went out to dinner with my wife this evening. We had a drink at the Herolds Bay Hotel before venturing upstairs to the restaurant and while we were having a quiet drink we started chatting about this question: is God interested in the details of our lives?
I suppose there are two possible answers to this – yes or no! If the answer is no, then God has no interest in whether or not I live in Cape Town or Joburg, or whether I have a dog or whether the house needs some maintenance. In that case God would not care about my temporal needs or whether we have job x instead of job y.
Alternatively some people may say that since God is more interested in our character than our comfort, if it does not relate to character God does not care. Andrew Womack would say that God does not control every incident that happens in my life, nor does he allow every single thing. Life happens and we are at its mercy to some degree. That does explain why bad things happen to people and families who really love God.
But when I think of the scripture which says that God clothes the fields and cares for the birds of the air, then I have to believe that he does care about what happens to me. I reckon we should keep on praying and committing the events of each day and each aspect of our lives to the Lord. I know that when we see him one day we shall know the answers to all these questions, but at that time it wont really matter will it?
