Everyone benefits

John 2:6Nearby stood six stone water jars, the kind used by the Jews for ceremonial washing, each holding from twenty to thirty gallons.
7Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water”; so they filled them to the brim.
8Then he told them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet.”
They did so, 9and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside 10and said, “Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now.”
11This, the first of his miraculous signs, Jesus performed in Cana of Galilee. He thus revealed his glory, and his disciples put their faith in him.
The first thing that strikes me about this miracle is that Jesus used water that would have been used for ceremonial washing. I am pretty sure that the water used for washing people’s feet as they came in would not have been the best of the water. It may well have been from a stream but probably not purified for the purpose of drinking. In a sense, Jesus miracle was taking something that was unclean and turn it into something that was fantastic.
That is exactly what Jesus has done in my life. He has taken someone was unclean and has made me perfect in God’s eyes. The interesting thing me in this parable is what everybody got out of it. If you look at the Mary, she got the satisfaction of seeing her son do his first miracle. The disciples believed for the first time because they realised they really were serving the son of God. Most of the bank got to be very impressed. The bridegroom looked very good as it had seemed as if he had kept the best wine til last.
That is what I love about Jesus. When he does something everybody benefits.
