John 1:47When Jesus saw Nathanael approaching, he said of him, “Here is a true Israelite, in whom there is nothing false.”
It is amazing how Nathanael’s statement made me stop and think. The first time we see any reference to him is a few verses earlier, where Nathaniel says to Philip, “can any good thing come out of Nazareth?” Then Philip says well come and see. When Nathanael sees Jesus, his immediate response is as above.
The two things that were instantly evident to Nathanael were that Jesus was a true Israelite and that there was no deceit / guile in him. Basically Nathanael was saying that Jesus was as honest as they come. There was such a look about him, that it was instantly recognisable.
I then started to think what do people say about me? What would my friends say about me? There is Barry and this is what is instantly recognisable. Never mind my friends, what would total strangers say?
Jesus is so amazing, that I am just in awe.
