Blessings one after another

John 1: 15 John testifies concerning him. He cries out, saying, “This was he of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.’ ” 16 From the fullness of his grace we have all received one blessing after another. 17 For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. 18 No one has ever seen God, but God the One and Only, who is at the Father’s side, has made him known

I believe that one of the reasons that so many Christians live a life which is characterised by unbelief, fear, doubt and confusion is that we do not understand the principles of how God’s Word works in our lives. If we do not understand the principles of how things work how we ever be able to put into place those things that will give us victory and confidence?

In the above passage, we see from verse 16 that John speaks about Jesus as being full of grace. PC back from this fullness of grace we have received one blessing after another. This speaks about the heart of God. It is God’s desire to bless his children. We saw in verse 14 that Jesus is full of grace and truth and because of his grace and the fullness of his grace, we are blessed beyond words. Once more, just because we have received blessings one after another, it does not necessarily mean that they have any effect in our life. The reason for this is that according to the principle of God we need to implement our faith in order to receive these blessings.

We read in James that faith without works is dead, and so if we are to please God we must come from a position of faith and faith requires some kind of action from us. It is not good enough to simply say I believe, and then just to hope for the best. This is exactly why we see so little of the power of God in our lives.
