Jesus is my light
Apr 14
John 1:6There came a man who was sent from God; his name was John. 7He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all men might believe. 8He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light. 9The true light that gives light to every man was coming into the world.
In verse six it says that John was a man who was sent from God. John the Baptist was sent with a very special purpose and that purpose was to be the forerunner or fore-teller of Christ. John was sent by God and it was a good thing that he’d listen and was obedient. In the following verse it tells us the purpose for John’s coming, namely to be a witness. John was to be a witness to testify.
John was sent specifically test to testify about the light. It is interesting to speak about testifying because when we say that somebody was to testify it normally means that they have experienced or witnessed something. John was sent to testify about that light, and also to the fact that if anyone believed in him they would be saved. The apostle John is very careful to draw a distinction between John the Baptist who came to testify about the real light and we know that the real light is Jesus.
