Do we understand?
Apr 13
John 1:5The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.
Luke 19:41As he approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he wept over it 42and said, “If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peace—but now it is hidden from your eyes.
I am beginning to understand more and more that many of the promises that have been given by God are not necessarily received by us. There is no doubt that understanding and being able to read the signs and being sensitive to the holy spirit plays a role in being able to read and understand the things of God. In John one we read that the light shone in the darkness but that the darkness did not understand it. Sometimes God speaks into our lives and he brings revelation to us even to the point where it is light shining into darkness and yet we do not receive it or understand it. Just like any television signal, God is permanently transmitting to us. However we do not necessarily always receive the signals that are coming from God. And then sometimes we do receive signals but we do not understand them and at these times we must pray for the revelation of the holy spirit.
In the passage from Luke chapter 19 we see that Jesus wept for Jerusalem because they did not recognise what would bring peace at that time.
It was enough to bring Jesus to tears. I wonder how my Lord and Saviour feels when I have no understanding for the things that he wants to do in my life? For this reason Jesus is it is better that I go and I send you the holy spirit who is the comforter who will always be with you. My prayer today is that God will open the eyes of understanding and my spiritual precipitous that I may always receive what he is sending me because I know it is always for my own good. James says that all good gifts come from the father above who is the father of lights.
