Marriage

I have just started leading the marriage course again for the first time in 2010. When I think about marriage I realise that it is a picture of Christ and the Church. Jesus describes himself as the bridegroom and the church as the bride. We read that he said that he has gone to prepare a place for his bride and he will return and will then come back to claim his bride, namely the church. I believe that marriage is the closest relationship that we have in human terms for the picture of the relationship that is supposed to be between God and man. The marriage relationship begins with two people who are in love with one another and who are dedicated to one another.

Two people who go into marriage enter into a covenant relationship in which they promise to be faithful to one another for as long as they both shall live. Their love relationship is based on the promises that they make to one another and the hope that they will remain together until death parts them.

We are expected to have exactly the same relationship with Christ. He loves us and will never leave us and he will never break is part of the covenant relationship. It is so good to serve such a faithful and loving God.
