A deal’s a deal

I have been helping my wife with one of her Christian counseling assignments and one of the questions was about marriage and how it relates to the biblical covenant. In my research, I was reminded that covenant is at the basis of our relationship with God. From the time that God created man, he entered into a covenant relationship with him that was based on two parties each keeping their own part of an agreement. God is all about relationship, and at the heart of relationship as far as God is concerned, there is covenant.
Covenant means an agreement between two parties. God established a covenant with Abraham and when God enters into a covenant it is for keeps. The Bible itself is made up of two parts, the Old Testament and the New Testament. Each of these is actually a covenant in itself. The Old Testament refers to the original or the old covenant that God had with a man which was based on the law. The New Testament which is also a covenant is based on the new covenant which Jesus told us was founded on love. In Psalm 89:34 God explains that he will never go back on his covenant or on the words that he has spoken. This gives us a complete and total confidence that God will always keep his side of the bargain.
